Dealing with Cold and flu for the younger Us!

October 22, 2019

Having to deal with cold and flu for our kids at the beginning of each season is a pain in the neck. So, whether it’s a cold or the flu, here what you need to know.

Difference Between the Cold and The Flu

Generally, flu tends to be worse than the common cold. Signs of the common cold are sore throat, runny nose, a slight increase in the temperature, ending with cough in the last days. Most of the symptoms are just in the head.
People suffering from flu tend to have higher fever, headaches, body pain and aches in addition to a runny nose and sore throat. Flu symptoms happen through the entire body rather than just the head. Symptoms also last longer than the common cold.

Here are some tips to help your little ones feel as fresh as a daisy!

Keep Them Hydrated

Fevers can easily result in dehydration, In addition to the secretion of larger amounts of mucus.
It’s important to encourage your little ones to drink more water to reduce the symptoms and help them feel better.
Dehydration can be serious if signs appear on babies younger than 3 months. So watch for any of the following signs:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry skin.
  • Less or no tears while crying.
  • Top of the head looks sunken.
  • Fewer wet diapers.
  • Congested Nose

Many sprays that help ease a congested nose are not recommended for young children. Luckily, a few other solutions are still available like putting a cool-mist humidifier in your child’s room or saline nasal spray or drops.
