Avoid Skin Dryness When You’re Snowed In

Dry-skin-winter

In the coldest season of the year, when the days are shorter and the nights are longer, many people suffer from dry skin in the winter. If your skin gets dry while you’re snowed under, here are a few easy steps that help you maintain healthy skin day and night.

Shower Time

It might not be so easy to step out of a hot and steamy shower, but to protect your skin, the ad recommends staying in the lukewarm shower for 5-10 minutes maximum. It also recommends avoiding hot water in the shower or while washing your hands and face. Cooler water is as effective as warm and hot water in removing germs.
Along with the hot shower, overusing soap during a shower can negatively impact your skin and hair. It is also recommended to avoid the overuse of the air hand-dryer.
Keep your lotions and moisturizers handy so that you can get used to the routine of moisturizing your skin after the shower without draining your willpower.
After the shower pat your skin dry rather than scrubbing to avoid irritating your skin. Avoid leaving home immediately after the shower.

Choose Your Products Wisely

Choosing the wrong products can worsen itchy and irritated skin. Aim for products that are fragrance-free and is free from the most common irritants. Also, look for products that contain moisturizers.
The frequency of using soap-containing products can affect your skin health. Look for cleansers that are soap-free and contain moisturizers.
Don’t forget your lips. Using a lip balm every day can help you avoid cracked lips.
Alcohol-based toners may dry out your skin, and exfoliating should be kept to a minimum.

Nutrition and Hydration

Mild dehydration can negatively affect your physical performance. It’s recommended to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day – which equals about 2 liters of water – not just for your skin, but also for your energy levels and brain function.
It’s recommended to eat foods containing vitamin E like almonds, beta-carotene, and antioxidants like carrots, stuff rich in iron and vitamin C like spinach, hot drinks like green tea, and foods containing omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids like such as fish oil and flaxseed oil.

Set the Right Environment

When it’s cold outside, it might be tempting to turn the thermostat up. This can make your house even drier. Keep the temperature at the lowest comfortable level.
Use a humidifier at your home or where you spend most of your time to add moisture to the air and keep your skin moisturized.
Put on light, soft and breathable clothing, then your heavy sweater instead of putting on heavy wool clothing directly on your skin.
