A. Calcium D-glucarate is the result of the oxidation of gluconic acid.1 Gluconic acid can be produced by fermentative oxidation of glucose from corn or other sources, though no residual corn remains in the product.

A. Laboratory studies have shown no adverse effects from calcium D-glucarate after prolonged periods of use – even at high doses. Similarly, there have been no observed adverse effects reported in preliminary clinical studies. Q. Are there any contraindications between calcium D-glucarate and oral contraceptives (birth control pills)?
A. Calcium D-glucarate may increase the elimination of certain drugs and hormones that are metabolized in the liver. For this reason, an alternate form of contraceptive should be used if taking birth control pills and calcium D-glucarate.
