Is dosage level of black cohosh the only factor for effectiveness?

Not entirely. Clinical studies have shown that the dosage of black cohosh is only one factor tied to effectiveness. The quality of the black cohosh, concentration, and extraction processes are important, too. There is even speculation that very high dosages become ineffective as they rise higher on the bell curve. And, unfortunately, some black cohosh supplements are so adulterated, that they simply can’t support relief.

Is black cohosh a phytoestrogen?

No, black cohosh does not contain any phytoestrogens, although there was a time when researchers thought that it did. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator, or SERM, and does not bind to receptors in breast tissue. So, while black cohosh is not a hormone, and does not provide phytoestrogens, it does appear to have estrogen-balancing effects.*

Does rhodiola contain caffeine?

No. While rhodiola does support mental and physical energy and stamina, it is an adaptogen, not a stimulant. Key compounds in the plant, rosavins and salidroside, are responsible for the herb’s ability to help you maintain a state of relaxed focus without making you jittery.*
